The staff at St John Fisher Catholic Primary School are committed to all the children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
A child has special educational needs if he or she has learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for him or her to learn than most other children of about the same age. Many children will have a special need of some kind during their education. Some children will need extra help and support from us for some or all of their time at St John Fisher.

If you have any concerns about your child’s progress you should first talk to your child’s class teacher. The teacher spends the most time with your child each day and will have the most information. Working together with your child’s teachers will often help to sort out worries and problems. The closer you work with your child’s teachers, the more successful any help can be.
In our school we have a SEN Co-ordinator (SENCo), who is responsible for co-ordinating help for children with special educational needs. The SENCo is Mrs Sarah Grainger and can be contacted at sgrainger@st-johnfisher.coventry.sch.uk or by calling the main office and leaving a message. Sarah works part-time and will get back to you as soon as she is able to. In our school we also have a Learning Mentor. Learning Mentor’s support and motivate children who are experiencing any barrier to learning including poor literacy or numeracy skills, poor attendance, difficult family circumstances and low self-esteem to name a few. The Learning Mentor is Mrs Julie Galloway and can be contacted at jgalloway@st-johnfisher.coventry.sch.uk or by calling the main office and leaving a message. Julie works full-time and will get back to you as soon as she is able to. Please do contact us if you think we can offer your family some support. We have many contacts with a range of agencies and we can offer signposting, guidance and support on a wide range of issues and difficulties. These issues and difficulties may include questions and concerns around parenting, behaviour, bereavement, separation or divorce, domestic violence and more.
